Non-Violence Programmes - Ministry of Justice / Corrections
We run several group programmes for those referred by the Ministry of Justice and Probation.
General topics covered include:
- Understanding family violence
- Taking ownership
- Self-management
- Changing to a violence free future
- Examine thinking, behaviour and beliefs
- Explore wellbeing /Te Whare Tapa Whā
- Develop Risk & Safety Plans
Rural Support
One of our team is now working in the Eastern and Western Southland regions to connect in with our rural men and migrant communities providing support and education around family violence. He will also be available to provide community education around family violence.
Keep an eye out also for different groups for men/tane kicking off in Gore and Lumsden. Dates for this will be confirmed soon and keep so eye on our noticeboard.
Te Huringa-Supporting Men’s Behaviour Change
We offer group programmes for those who are using violence or at risk of using violence. This programme is for self-referrals or those referred by another organisation.
Tautoko-Men’s Drop-in Support Group -this is currently held here at Lighthouse on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 4:30-5:30ish. Light refreshments provided.
Our Te Huringa mahi helps men to:
- Understand the nature and effects of family violences on victims, whānau & community
- Identify and manage risks and develop Risk/Safety plans
- Develop tools for healthy relationships
- Support whānau wellbeing
- Develop safe and healthy masculinity
- Take responsibility/accountability
- Develop healthy relationships
- Develop healing/connection
- Feel supported as tāne and fathers
- Strengthen cultural identity/language/whakapapa.
Safety Programme
We offer individual Safety Programmes for those who have experienced violence and family harm and those who need support to:
- Develop supports, wellbeing and confidence
- Work towards safety
- Explore wellbeing/Te Whare Tapa Whā
- Examine thinking and beliefs
- Focus on the future
- Develop Safety Plans
Adolescent Programme
This service is currently on hold and we will not be taking further referrals at this time. However, this will be reviewed later this year.
This programme is for children and young people aged 12–17 yrs. who are struggling with aggressive or violent behaviours. The programme also works with those children and young people who have been exposed to or experienced family violence.
The programme covers:

- Anger & Violence
- Respect & Values/Belief
- Communication & Relationships
- Self-esteem
- Wellbeing / Te Whare Tapa Whā
- Grief/Trauma
- Develop Safety Plans
Referrals are accepted from schools, Alternative Education, Police, other agencies, health professionals, and parents/caregivers.
We work with the child or young person in the school or alternative education setting. However, we can also deliver the programme at our office if this is a more appropriate option.
